Main jet will have NO affect on your idle!! The
Savage likes it lean at idle speed, but this causes
backfire, so you have to lean it out at idle speed
and then richen it up to the point where there is
a compromise between good idle and some backfire.
Backfires are completely safe and cannot cause any
damage so live with it. You can mess around with
tuning your pipe but that's about it. Or you can
richen up your idle mixture to the point where there
is no backfire and then turn up the idle speed real
real high so it won't die. It's compromise and
that's all there is to it. It's a 650 single and
they backfire. Find the best compromise and live with
it or get a different bike. THat's the way big
singles are. Hope this helps.
